Advanced Nurse Practitioners
Advanced Nurse Practitioners are nurses who have gained extensive qualification to have authority in patient diagnosis and are able to independently assess, diagnose, mange and care for patients with complex clinical issues which includes prescribing medication within the scope of their competencies.
Jo Hawkins
Female
Jo has been a nurse at Lion Health, and previously Worcester Street Surgery, for 22 years. She is an Independent Nurse Prescriber, with a vast knowledge of the full spectrum of Long Term Conditions.
Andy Caddick
Male
Registered Adult Nurse as of 2003. Andy gained his prescribers qualification in 2012.
Paula Middleton
Female
Qualifying in 1992, after working a short spell in the Dudley hospitals, Paula moved into community nursing. Here she gained extensive experience in a number of nursing roles, enhancing her knowledge and skills along the way. Paula’s keen clinical interest has always been caring for the elderly. Paula now runs the Home Visiting Service and is involved in Long Term Condition management.
Rachel Higley
Female
Qualifying in 1997 as a Registered Nurse from the University of Wolverhampton, Rachel spent 4 years on an Acute Medical ward at Wordsley Hospital. Rachel then took a position within the community and completed her BSc Hons in District Nursing in 2004. Following this, experience and skills were gained as a District Nurse Team Leader. An interest in the management of Long Term Conditions was developed and Rachel spent 6 years in a nursing position as an Assertive Case Manager, caring for those with multiple Long Term Conditions. Rachel has gained extensive experience and skills in health and physical assessment have been developed. Rachel now runs the home visiting service and is also involved in Long Term Condition Management.
Michelle Holland

Qualified 1991 as RGN and as a Midwife 1995. Career long and varied but mainly focused in Primary care and long term conditions. After working as a midwife and then district nurse in both Stourbridge and Worcestershire she moved into general practice as a Practice Nurse Manager , developing new services and managing the diabetes service before returning to Dudley to Lead the community diabetes specialist team. Michelle was Involved assessing complex patients requiring a specialist level of diabetes management/knowledge in both clinics and the home environment. She’s passionate about diabetes education and a trained diabetes specialist educator for both patients and other health professionals . With over 20 years of experience working with primary and secondary diabetes, she has been involved in both chairing and speaking at conferences to educate other health professionals in the field of diabetes.
Alison Harvey
Female
She has extensive years of community nursing experience, as a District Nurse, and working with patients with long term conditions.
She moved to Wolverhampton to become a Community Matron supporting patients at risk of admission to hospital.
As part of the Rapid Intervention team she has gained physical assessment skills and is an independent nurse prescriber, these skills are used to support the GP’s to do home visits to the housebound patients within the practice. Alison now runs the home visiting service as well as being involved in Long Term Condition Management.
Sarah Fellows

MSc Birmingham City University. Sarah is part of the on-call first contact team for Acute Conditions at Lion Health. Sarah has over 30 years experience of primary care initially within sexual health and Chronic Disease Management moving to holistic management of primary care needs with homeless patients in Birmingham. Sarah then moved to become a Nurse Practitioner and Advanced Nurse Practitioner in Birmingham GP Practices now working at Lion Health. Sarah works alongside the on call GPs and works with a broad spectrum of medical conditions encompassing both adult and children’s problems.
Nurse Practitioner/Nurse Prescriber
Nurse Practitioners are trained specialist nurses. They are highly experienced nurses who have undertaken additions medical education. They can provide treatment and advice for many problems and main expertise include management of common illnesses and long term conditions. They work closely with doctors and liaise frequently about patient care.
Julie Evans

As one of the the Senior Practice Nurses Julie has worked at our practice for many years. Generally she works within the general nursing clinics, and has a keen interest in travel health and related travel immunisations, children’s immunisations and also works in the chest clinics at the Practice.
Practice Nurses
Practice nurses are responsible for the delivery of practice nursing services working as part of the practice multidisciplinary Primary health care team, delivering care within the scope of practice to patients. They can help with chronic disease management, health prevention, various health clinics.
Jenny Costello

Jenny is our Practice Nurse Manager and has been at the surgery since 2004.
Jenny has a wealth of experience in both General Practice Nursing Duties and Long Term Condition Management. In her clinical role, Jenny holds supplementary qualifications in Diabetes, COPD, Asthma management, Tissue Viability and Assessor/Supervisor Mentorship. In her management role, Jenny is responsible for the welfare, training and development of 20 + nurses within the team. In addition, Jenny supplements the GP team with Clinical Governance support and also leads on the delivery of the Annual National Flu Campaign.
Helen Hanson
Female
Helen Qualified in 1988 and moved to London to work in plastics for 5 years then moving to Stourbridge joined the district nursing team. Clinical background lies mainly within district nursing. Practice nurse for 12 years with particular interest in diabetes and wound care but experienced in all aspects of practice nursing.

Jennie Sandford
Jennie qualified as a Nurse at the Russells Hall Hospital 1993 and then as a Midwife in 1995 at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. Jennie worked as a fertility specialist up to 2001 and has an interest in women’s health. Her specialties are in gynaecology and obstetrics.

However, I worked at Worcester St Surgery and Lion Health for 10 years previously as a senior HCA before going to do my nurse training which I studied at Masters Level at Wolverhampton University. I have particular interests in family planning, travel health and diabetes.

I am currently completing a top up degree from Registered Nurse Associate to Registered Nurse at Birmingham City University. Its a 2-year course where I am on placement in A&E at present, gaining exposures into lots of different avenues including, Adult, Child, Mental Health and Community Care. Previous jobs include community care, QE hospital in oncology and ITU.
